Les Madeleines was such an unexpected treat. It’s a cozy French-style spot known for made-from-scratch pastries & desserts plus a full breakfast & lunch menu. It’s downtown and it’s wonderful. I was introduced to the Kouign-amann which is a round crusty cake, made with bread dough containing layers of butter and sugar folded in. But what it really is, is ridiculously good and each bite gets better until you hit the center which is heaven. I recently had the Madmuffin Sandwich it it was incredible. Lightly scrambled egg, avocado, wild boar bacon, and micro chives on a house-made English muffin. So good! Love this place.
Cucina Deli Is one Of My Favorites In Salt Lake City
Tucked in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Salt Lake, The Avenues, is Cucina Deli. It’s a counter service joint serving up fresh sandwiches, salads and entrees and it is just delicious and healthy. Is a go to place for me whenever I am in town. Perfect for a quick, healthy and relaxing meal. The Stuffed Portobello was great! And I love their salads.
Alpine Modern Cafe Is Off The Beaten Path and Good.
I like this little joint. Alpine Modern Cafe is tucked in the Chautauqua Neighborhood of Boulder near the university. If was a funky mini mart for years. Not any more. This little coffee shop has a clean, modern vibe and tasty food as well. They are open from 7-5:30 everyday. My little avocado and egg bowl was delicious.
Boulder’s West End Tavern Is A Feel Good Place
I love The West End Tavern. It’s on Boulder’s West End which is my favorite part of town on the west end of the Pearl St. Mall. It has great atmosphere, a killer roof top deck with a view of the Flatirons, great whiskey and beer selection and excellent service because this is one of Dave Quary’s Big Red F restaurants. Oh, and the food, it’s not off the charts great but it’s good which is fine with me. The fried pickles with a killer dipping sauce, pictured below, are pretty damn good and the Brisket is surprisingly good and smoked in house. The salads are tasty as well. My favorite thing to do is go there in the summer and sit on the west deck and soak in the view. It’s really fun up there. The east side of their roof top deck is covered and is a sports bar with a bunch of TVs and it’s own bar. Just an all around great place.
b. patisserie in San Francisco is a must
b. patisserie is in the Lower Pacific Heights Neighborhood of San Francisco. Super cool area and this place has the most amazing pastries and sandwiches. I mean it. This place is a must. I had the Tomato and Burrata Tartine. Tomato, Balsamic and Olive Oil, Basil. Please go!
It Really Doesn’t Get Better Than Sweet Maple
Sweet Maple is one of those special places where it all just comes together. It is a laid-back and unpretentious neighborhood restaurant, coffeehouse and meeting place located in the Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. Serving a classic American breakfast and brunch menu with a touch of Asian influence. Everything is scratch made using organic, local ingredients. Which means it tastes better! I love this place. I had the Blackstone Benedict. Millionaire’s bacon, asparagus, cherry tomato, Meyer lemon hollandaise. So good. And Millionaire’s Bacon is their specialty. Extra-thick, sweet and spicy bacon that is slow-cooked for hours with brown sugar and spicy peppers to a chewy perfection. Enjoy this little gem.
First Time Eating Afghan Food & It Won’t Be The Last
Kabul Afghan Cuisine is really good. My first time eating Afghan food and I really liked it. Lots of meat and really well seasoned. Tons of flavor. This joint is in Sunnyvale which is about 45 minutes south of San Francisco on The Peninsula. I had the Kabab-e-Gousfand. Cubes of lamb marinated, charbroiled on skewer, served with pallaw. Yum!
It Doesn’t Have To Be Fancy To Be Good
I really like Jan’s Deli in Meno Park. Nothing fancy about this joint and their food is fresh and scratch made. They don’t even have a website. Great place for a quick sandwich. The Roast Turkey is delish. They are open 10-2:30. Mon-Fri. That’s it. Love this place.
Grand Lake Kitchen Is A Special Place
Grand Lake Kitchen in Oakland is the kind of place that makes me happy. It’s a small, local joint with a great vibe and everything is scratch made and locally sourced. Absolutely delicious for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I went for breakfast and had the Avocado Toast with poached eggs, aleppo chile and baby kale salad. Heaven.
Smitten Ice Cream Dishes Up Tasty Flavors
Smitten Ice Cream has a bunch of locations in the Bay Area. I went to the one in Pacific Heights which is a fun area of San Francisco. Lots of restaurants and cool shops. The make their ice cream to order using some hi tech nitrogen system. The flavors are tasty. I got a sundae with a scoop of vanilla and chocolate. Mmmm.
