Husk is located on Rutledge Hill near the heart of Downtown Nashville in a renovated southern home. It has a cool vibe and the food was excellent. Southern Farm to Table is the name of the game here. The appetizers were the highlight. The chicken wings and pork belly sandwiches were out of this world. The downstairs bar is super quaint. When I go back I will eat at the bar where they make tasty cocktails as well. Ashley, Bryan and I were most definitely in chill mode at this swanky spot.
Sittin’ Pretty In The Catbird Seat
Twenty bar seats surround a u-shaped kitchen at The Catbird Seat where chef Trevor Moran and his team prepare your meal as you watch. The experience can be as interactive as you wish; that part is up to you. The details of what you will be savoring at your meal won’t be determined until you are there. That part is up to them. This is an experience not to be missed when in Nashville. Went with my friend and colleague, Shawn Farrell, and we had fun! It’s all small plates and they just keep coming. The house made sausage with egg was ridiculous and this little tart has house made meringue drops and red wine balls on it with fresh herbs. Just amazing!
404 Kitchen Does Not Disappoint
When in Nashville I highly recommend heading to the new hip area called The Gulch and check out the 404 Kitchen. The food is excellent as is the whiskey. They have a huge selection. This Farrow with Mushrooms was outstanding. This place is very small with a great atmosphere. My friend Sarah and I sat at the bar and our bartender/waiter could not have been nicer. Just a great spot. And if you are into music, The Station Inn is right next door. This is a very well known for great live Bluegrass. And….connected to the 404 Kitchen is the 404 Hotel with only 5 very cool rooms. This place has it all going on!
Seafood Buffet Deer Valley Resort. Always Good.
Many people may not know about it but at the base of the Deer Valley Ski Resort, every Wednesday thru Saturday for dinner, the cafeteria is turned into The Seafood Buffet. And it is very very good. I have been 5 times and never disappointed. They have sushi, oysters, crab legs, fish, excellent meats, salad bar, cheese bar and dessert bar. And a great selection of cocktails and wines. It’s a spurge so make a rezy and go hungry!
Salt Lake Has a Real Deal Italian Deli
I have been wanting to check out Tony Caputo’s Gourmet Market and Deli’s downtown town location and it was worth the trip. He has a few locations and last year my son, Max, and I hit the one up on 15th and 15th which was great but the downtown location makes great sandwiches and is a full store with a huge selection of meats and cheeses. I had The Caputo with prosciutto, salami, mortadella and provolone on fresh French bread. Excellent. It’s worth a trip. And if you are a coffee drinker, The Rose Establishment is right around the corner. It’s a cool area.
Frankie’s Spuntino in Brooklyn
Killer gnocchi at Frankie’s Spuntino in Brooklyn. Frankie has 2 locations and this one is in Brooklyn. It was just voted as having the best Italian food in NYC and it did not disappoint. Everything was very good and great atmosphere and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Go!
Shake Shack In Buckhead Is The Real Deal
When I was in Atlanta last week I had to hit up some late night food and Shake Shack did not disappoint. The original started in Manhattan by famous restauranteur, Danny Meyer, and now they are popping up all over. The double cheeseburger was excellent. Do I dare say better than Inn ‘n Out??? Throw some crinkle fries and a local beer on tap in there and the late night munch is complete!
Atlanta’s West Side Has A New Gem
Had an absolutely fantastic meal at Cooks & Soldiers in Atlanta’s West Side last week. Whether you have the grilled bread with tomato, fresh garlic and thinly sliced Bayonne Ham, coal roasted mushrooms with goat cheese creme fraiche with black truffle, 3 way cooked carrots or pork tenderloin, you just can’t go wrong. They specialize in Basque cuisine. And they have it all going on. Cocktails were delicious, great atmosphere and wonderful service. Our waitress took great care of us. We never looked at the menu.
I had a great time with my wonderful friends and work colleagues Ellen Brown, Betsy Donnelly, John Singleton and Kevin Decker. And Executive Chef, Landon Thompson, came out to say hi. So much fun!
Cooks & Soldiers is a must go when in Atlanta!
Father’s Office in Santa Monica is a Classic
There are worse places to be stranded than Santa Monica. I had to come to Father’s Office. Best burger in town and an exceptional beer list. Don’t ask for ketchup though:). Love this place!
