One of my favorite neighborhoods in Salt Lake City is The Avenues. It’s on a hill by the Capitol with lots of trees and cool Victorian houses. It’s peaceful and chill up there. A few years ago I discovered Cucina Deli which I love and now there is another place to hit up; Avenues Proper. It’s a craft brewery serving elevated pub fare and has a nice patio to boot. They have some great beers on tap that they brew and a nice bottled selection as well if you prefer full strength beer. The food is pretty tasty as well. I had the Rarebit Frites – house beer & cheese béchamel, bacon, cherry tomato, diced red onion and the Korean Pulled Pork Sandwich – house kimchi, Korean BBQ sauce, grilled scallions, zuchinni pickles, frites & aioli. Both were super tasty. And to top it off Hatch Family Chocolates is right next store serving up so homemade chocolate treats and ice cream. It was a good night!
Pizano’s Pizza Is Chicago’s Finest
Chicago is know for some of the best pizza in the world. Especially deep dish. And Pizano’s is the best of the best. They have a few locations. I went to the one on State St. in the city. It was lunch so I choose a thin crust so I wouldn’t have to take a nap after. I highly recommend you get sausage on your pizza because it is like none other and the cheese and sauce are outstanding. One of the best pizzas I have eaten. No joke. Go!
I’m Luvin Norton’s In Highland Park
If you are out in the northern burbs of Chicago, stop by Norton’s in Highland Park for a meal. I love this place. Now the food is good. Not great but plenty good. I had the chopped salad and loved it. They have good burgers, fish etc. A basic food joint where everything is fresh. But what makes this place special is the atmosphere and the owners who are always there. They make everyone feel special and cared for. And they have a few TVs so a good place to watch the Bulls, Bears, Hawks and Cubs. And if you are there after 8pm….well let’s just say that the tequila starts flowing freely. Check it out and you will see what I mean. Great place.
The Porter Beer Bar Is Such A Cool Tasty Place
I made one last stop on my way out of Atlanta and I am sure glad I did. In the Little Five Points Neighborhood is a gem called The Porter Beer Bar. First of all, I love the neighborhood. It’s gritty and full of life and this joint is funky. It’s a bar with a serious food menu. Everything I had was great and there was so much more I wanted to try. These little Pulled Duck Banh Mi Sandwiches? I could have eaten many! Incredible. They also have a huge beer and whisky selections and the bartender was so helpful on choices. Impressive. Love love this place. Go!
2 Dog Is A Pretty Tasty Spot
Recently I was in Atlanta visiting a program north of town near Gainesville and went to 2 Dog – A Local Restaurant for lunch. What a pleasant surprise. I love checking out local joints in smalls towns and this place did not disappoint. Located in an old victorian house they serve lots of great salads, sandwiches, burgers etc. I happened to be there when one of the specials was the Gouda Fritters. Please get them if they are on the menu when you go. Outstanding!!!
JCT Kitchen & Bar In Atlanta’s West Side
JCT Kitchen and Bar has it goin on. It is in Atlanta’s hip Westside and it is situated in what looks to be a former industrial strip mall that has been renovated and filled with cool stores and restaurants. I very much loved this place. The food was excellent. Best deviled eggs I have ever had and the fried green tomatoes are a must. I also is the trout which was delicious. Top notch food cooked up by Head Chef Martin (pictured). He is the man. Service was fantastic and Sarah took very good care of us. Could not of been more helpful and nice. And JCT has a great atmosphere. After dinner head upstairs to the bar and sit outside on comfy couches and enjoy great cocktails. Could have sat there all night. Love this place!
I’m Lovin The Victory Sandwich Bar In Decatur
Victory Sandwich Bar is located in Decatur, which is a super cool town within the perimeter of Atlanta which means it is an urban town as opposed to a suburb. Victory is open for lunch, dinner and till 2am. I went at midnight. It’s casual and hip and the food is delicious. The sandwiches are only $4 bucks so I sampled a few. Pictured below is the Boss Hog. Carolina Gold BBQ with Victory Slaw. Really good. And try their Ramen Salad too. They also have some tasty beers including one of my favorites, Allagash White out of Portland, Maine. This is a fun, casual spot. I will most definitely go back.
Go To Lauer Krauts. Home Of The Kraut Burger
In Brighton Colorado, half way between the airport and Boulder is Lauer Krauts. It’s a family-owned German-Russian counter serve known for its kraut burger, a meat-filled pastry pocket. They scratch make their own sauerkraut and it goes in their with the burger meat too. I had mine with jack cheese as well. Pretty tasty. I liked it so much that I had a second. They also have scratch made soups as well. Fun little joint. And it’s little. 3 tables only.
OB Noodle House Is My Go To Place In San Diego
OB Noodle House & Sake Bar is an Asian Fusion Joint in Ocean Beach. Specializing in Pho, Fried Rice with a huge beer and sake list. Anytime I am in the area I go. It is that good! And it is cheap with a great atmosphere. Just love this place and they have just opened a second location also in Ocean Beach called Bar 1502. Same great menu with the addition of a huge whiskey selection and killer outdoor seating area. Be warned if you are over 50, like me, you will be one of only a handful. Ocean Beach is a young scene. Love love love this place!
Sea & Smoke Is A Pretty Cool Brasserie
Del Mar is a beautiful beach town 15 miles north of San Diego. Sea & Smoke actually sits right off the highway in a strip mall but don’t let that fool you. First of all, it’s a pretty good strip mall with lots of good shopping and a Whole Foods. When you walk in, if you go down a half flight of stairs to the left, there is a very cool bar that opens up to a killer patio. And the food is no joke. Superb! Best Charred Octopus I have ever had. Very tender. Not chewy and the Fresh Pacific Halibut was excellent. Fun spot.
